Our World Editor, the tool we use to look at and build maps, had a big day.
The 13 old maps from 2006 now open in the editor the way the game shows them: each map uses its own 2006 models and textures first, and the trees are drawn and lit like in the game.
Cliffs look right again. In the 2006 Hodemimes maps and in today's Prontera city, many cliffs and slopes showed as a flat smear because the editor lost how often their rock and grass textures repeat. They now show their real rock and grass.
Maps made by the map generator now get a horizon of their own: the far mountains continue the shape of the new map instead of an old backdrop, following measurements taken from the real Prontera fields.
A generated map can now be turned into a complete package for the game: the map itself, its height data, walking data, a minimap and 137 monster spawns taken from the Prontera field, all checked by the editor. It is not in the game yet; the first test on our test server comes later.
The editor is also safer to use: it asks before it saves anything outside its own folder, you can cancel while a new map is being made, and copied objects no longer cast shadows they should not.
Next for the editor: cliffs that mix grass, rock and sand like the game does, roads that look used, a monster theme for each new map, names and a picture gallery for new maps, a second map style (a Hodemimes beach), lamp glow and chimney smoke, and trees that sway in the wind. Pictures are in the map-editor channel on our Discord.
