Playing on a Steam Deck or a Mac

AegisRO2 runs on a Steam Deck with Proton, and it has its own Mac version. Windows and the Mac version are the supported systems; a Steam Deck or CrossOver is on your own. You need an accepted alpha login first: request access.

Steam Deck

  1. Switch to Desktop Mode: press the Steam button, then Power, then Switch to Desktop.
  2. Download the launcher from your download page and keep it in a folder of its own, for example Games/AegisRO2 in your home folder. It updates itself there.
  3. In Steam, choose Games, then Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library, then Browse. Show all files and pick AegisRO2Launcher.exe.
  4. Open the new entry's Properties, then Compatibility. Tick Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool and choose Proton Experimental.
  5. Go back to Gaming Mode and start AegisRO2 from your library. Log in and press PLAY. The first start downloads the game, about 4.5 GB.

The game has controller support, and the Steam Deck was our first test machine for it. Hold L2 or R2 for the cross hotbar, and use the D-pad to move through open windows. Pressing A on a text field opens the on-screen keyboard.

Mac

You need an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or newer) with macOS 26 or newer. Keep about 10.4 GB free while it installs.

  1. Download AegisRO2 for Mac from your status page and drag AegisRO2 into Applications.
  2. The first time, your Mac stops it: click Done, open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway.
  3. Log in and press PLAY. The launcher downloads the game, about 3.9 GB.

Some trees are not drawn on a Mac yet. If your left clicks feel stuck, close apps that change how your mouse or keyboard works, such as Magnet or Hyperkey. A Mac update can come a little later than the Windows one; until it is ready, the launcher shows "Mac update coming".

Older Macs: CrossOver

  1. Install CrossOver from CodeWeavers (a paid app with a free trial).
  2. Create a new bottle of the type Windows 10 64-bit.
  3. Download the launcher from your download page and run AegisRO2Launcher.exe in that bottle.
  4. Log in and press PLAY. The launcher downloads the game, about 4.5 GB, inside the bottle.

macOS may ask for permission the first time, for example to read an external drive. A question that is left open can stop the game from starting, so answer it.
